Caldwell Delaney was born in 1918 in Danville, Virginia. His family moved to Mobile, Alabama, in 1930. Delaney received a B.S. degree in 1941 from Spring Hill College and an M.A. degree from the University of Alabama in 1952. During his career Delaney acted as Dean of the University Military School (1941-1956), Headmaster of Julius T. Wright School for Girls (1956-65), and Director of the Museum of Mobile (1965-92).
